The SM29E is the 400mm Compack with a brake tank — a small water reservoir at the back of the machine that feeds the rinse boiler through a boost pump. Even when your mains pressure drops (and it does, in more buildings than you’d expect), the SM29E maintains a consistent rinse every cycle.
Why does that matter? Because low rinse pressure means the machine takes longer to fill, the detergent overdoses, and your glasses come out with a chemical film on them. In edge cases, that can mean chemical residue that’s actually a risk to customers. The brake tank eliminates that.
This is also the minimum spec for WRAS approval. If you’re running a care home, nursery, school, or hospital kitchen, you need at least an SM model. It’s not a recommendation — it’s the regulation.
No built-in water softener on this one — if you need both a brake tank and softening, look at the SMP range in the 500mm basket size.
